Texas Jugglefest XVII Feb 26-28th

Celebrating its 17th year, Jugglefest is a three-day event full of workshops, games, demonstrations, and shows featuring juggling, unicycling, and related circus arts. Everyone is welcome to come on down to pick up the basics, learn some new tricks, meet some crazy people or just chill out and watch.

Last year we brought FOOTBAG to Jugglefest for the first time and had a blast.  Our act was well received at the “Late Show” and over a dozen people showed up to our footbag workshop the next day.

21 hours of workshops, games, raffle prizes, trick trading, and more!

On Saturday night we’re pulling out all the stops! We’ll be showcasing performers from Austin and all over the world as they demonstrate their skills in the circus arts. Unicycles, yo-yos, diabolos, poi, juggling – there’s no telling what’s going to happen next. Come on down and check out the best free, family friendly show in Austin!

Spring 2010 Events

Cold enough for ya?  It’s been below freezing in Austin here all weekend which is RARE.  I mean I was used to it when I lived in the Northeast, but c’mon.  Footbag sessions have been sporadic here while we go into hibernation.  The one thing that keeps me going is knowing what an AWESOME spring we are going to have as far as footbag events.  Check out the newly updated Events page.

  • Texas Jugglefest. February 26th-28th, 2010.  Austin is home to some extremely talented jugglers (balls, clubs, rings and much, much more!) and this event usually draws talented people from all over North America.  Expect to see some other unique quirky talents like comedy, poi and gymnastics.
  • Austin Reggae Fest.  April 16th-18th, 2010.  There are always tons of hack circles at this event.  Plus, the event benefits the Austin Capital Area Food Bank
  • Eeyore’s Birthday.  April 24th, 2010.  A fun event that celebrates the eccentricity and “Keep It Weird” attitude of Austin.  Hack circles galore at this event.
  • Southern Regionals Footbag Tournament.  A yearly footbag event held in Houston, TX.  This year it will be in late April or early May, exact dates TBD

Also, some of us will be attending the Las Vegas Jam next month.

One-shot Challenge

In the footbag community there is an ongoing challenge called the “Stephen Barnes 1-shot challenge”. You film one run from your session and no matter what happens you post it on the forum for everyone to see.  I got a pretty good run on video for this.  You can check it out here:

Frankenbike #51

Next session will be at FRANKENBIKE

Start: 10/31/2009 – 11:00am (hack starts at 1:00pm)
End: 10/31/2009 – 4:00pm

This month everything’s going down at Freewheeling Bicycles, at the corner of San Gabriel and 24th St. The event runs from 11am-4pm THIS Saturday (31st), and from the sound of things there’s gonna be a lot of great stuff there:

Don’t know if you noticed the Coffee trailer on the south side of the building, The Good Bike Coffee Cart, I have talked to Charlie, the owner and he’s gunna hook up a FrankenBike special if you bring your own mug, its $1 coffee all day!!

FreeWheeling its self will have a ton of OEM parts such as saddles, handle bars, etc, on a few tables out side.

Thanks for the heads-up on OEM parts and a killer coffee deal. Makes showing up at 11am on a Saturday just that much easier…

Weekly session times change

So this summer we’ve fallen of the wagon with regular sessions.  They will be resuming now!  Saturdays at 1pm at Palmer. No mid-week session for now.  If you want to start one, post a comment letting us know the suggested time and place.

So I’ve been injured all summer and footbag has fallen by the wayside.  The good news is that I’m making a recovery and we should be back in session this fall.  The Texas Statewide Tournament is very much still ON and we are expecting some AWESOME out of town guests.  I put up the info for the youth hostel, which is the best cheapest place to stay in Austin.  More on the official page:
