I just a got an iPod touch a little while ago and saw that this game came out:

Hack The Planet

It kinda looks like “California Games” taken to the 21st century and ported to the iPhone.

Quick Review

I got this game and immediately started playing it.  2 hours later I had lost all sense of time.  The graphics and storyline for this game are outstanding.  It really sucks you in and immerses you in its world.  The gameplay graphics are pretty cool.  My only regret is that the actual freestyle gameplay is pretty limited.  Trick selection is small and there are no delay-based freestyle moves.  Still, the graphics, storyline and everything else more than make up for that to bring you a really fun, immersive game.  I have big hopes for a “Hack the Planet 2″ if there will ever be one.

Well, summer isn’t officially here yet but if you’ve looked at your thermostat lately you know it’s already here.  The days have been HOT, which is why we have a weekly session in a spot with guaranteed shade.

We had a great session this past Saturday with 6 people total: Ben, Cody and James, along with Greg, Ryan and Christy visiting from Corpus.  James is back with a vengeance, hitting super long consistent runs with occasionally big tricks thrown in.  Hopefully we can keep the momentum going through the summer.  For now, here’s a classic jam to keep you going through this heat:

Well, news on footbag wire is that our brethren at Hackrifice, the footbag club in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada have shaken off the snow and are resuming regular sessions (hey throw some of that mild weather our way, it’s mid 30’s celsius over here).

Here’s a video from their first outside session last year, hopefully we’ll see something similar soon for this year:

You really couldn’t have planned it more perfectly.  Look at this line up:

That’s 4 weeks in a row of footbag/hackysack events.  I’m training now to get my body in tip top shape for this.  It’s going to be one great 4 week stretch.  Get out to as many ans you can!

Cold enough for ya?  It’s been below freezing in Austin here all weekend which is RARE.  I mean I was used to it when I lived in the Northeast, but c’mon.  Footbag sessions have been sporadic here while we go into hibernation.  The one thing that keeps me going is knowing what an AWESOME spring we are going to have as far as footbag events.  Check out the newly updated Events page.

• Texas Jugglefest. February 26th-28th, 2010.  Austin is home to some extremely talented jugglers (balls, clubs, rings and much, much more!) and this event usually draws talented people from all over North America.  Expect to see some other unique quirky talents like comedy, poi and gymnastics.
• Austin Reggae Fest.  April 16th-18th, 2010.  There are always tons of hack circles at this event.  Plus, the event benefits the Austin Capital Area Food Bank
• Eeyore’s Birthday.  April 24th, 2010.  A fun event that celebrates the eccentricity and “Keep It Weird” attitude of Austin.  Hack circles galore at this event.
• Southern Regionals Footbag Tournament.  A yearly footbag event held in Houston, TX.  This year it will be in late April or early May, exact dates TBD

Also, some of us will be attending the Las Vegas Jam next month.

Firm dates for Texas Jugglefest have been announced.

This month everything’s going down at Freewheeling Bicycles, at the corner of San Gabriel and 24th St. The event runs from 11am-4pm THIS Saturday (31st), and from the sound of things there’s gonna be a lot of great stuff there:

Don’t know if you noticed the Coffee trailer on the south side of the building, The Good Bike Coffee Cart, I have talked to Charlie, the owner and he’s gunna hook up a FrankenBike special if you bring your own mug, its $1 coffee all day!!

FreeWheeling its self will have a ton of OEM parts such as saddles, handle bars, etc, on a few tables out side.

Thanks for the heads-up on OEM parts and a killer coffee deal. Makes showing up at 11am on a Saturday just that much easier…
